With the popularity of OLED panels in the android camp, apple is clearly feeling the pinch.
Yesterday evening, The Korea Herald reported that Samsung Display, a Samsung Display panel maker, had recently signed an order with apple to supply The OLED panels for next year's iPhone 9.
Last month, Samsung Display signed a partnership agreement with apple to supply 80 million OLED panels for the iPhone 8 this year. The south Korean herald reported today that Samsung Display has also secured an agreement to supply more than 180 million iPhone 9 OLED panels.
There have been multiple sources pointing out that apple will start with the iPhone 7 and have decided to have an OLED display for next year's iPhone.
OLED display as the next generation of LED display screen, electronic equipment to produce more bright, can have a clearer image, its power consumption is less than the traditional light emitting diode (LED), also less than today's people to use liquid crystal display (LCD);
And because the pixels themselves can emit light, there is no need for an independent back light source, so it can be more frivolous.
Not only that, OLED screens can be more power-efficient, but it's also a big temptation for an apple that doesn't have a lot of battery life.
And in the OLED panels, samsung has nearly 90% control of smartphones, and both sharp and LG are still in development.
Samsung Display will supply two specs for the iPhone 9, with a screen size of 5.28 inches and 6.46 inches, the report said. The supply will be more than twice the size of the iPhone 8, to about 180 million.
