European sovereign debt crisis and its impact on China's import and export trade
发布时间2017-06-07 19:12:00

In October 2009, Greece's new prime minister, George papandreou, announced that his predecessor had concealed a large fiscal deficit, sparking panic in the markets and kicking off the European sovereign debt crisis. Sovereign bond yields in Ireland, Portugal and Spain also rose sharply in December, when Europe's sovereign debt crisis erupted. In the second half of 2011, Europe's sovereign debt crisis emerged as a major problem affecting the world economy, with the spread of the core countries such as France, Britain and Germany.

Sovereign debt problems in recent years has become a universal phenomenon in developed economies, the gap is widening, budget deficit as a share of GDP in 2010 from high to low in turn is Ireland's 147% and 136% of Greece, Spain's 112%, Portugal's 94%, Italian 53%, although the Italian situation slightly better, but also nearly 6% of the ceiling; Fiscal deficits may be just a represents the level of government debt, and the total amount of debt accumulated more telling the liabilities of a country, as of 2010, the Italian government debt scale of 1167% of GDP, Greece is 1249%, Portugal was 846%, Ireland the outbreak of the debt scale of 829% of GDP, Spain (663%). In fact, the whole of Europe's debt problem is not optimistic. In 12 of the eu's 27 countries, government debt accounts for more than 60 per cent of GDP, even in France, where the economy is stronger, with Germany at 767 per cent. Britain is not in the euro zone, but it is almost the equivalent of Greece, Ireland, Portugal and Spain combined, with a government debt ratio of 681%.

Given the Greek government finances deteriorated significantly, international rating agencies have downgraded Greece's credit rating, fitch, A rating agency, put Greece's sovereign credit rating by A - to BBB ﹢, standard & poor's will be Greece's long-term sovereign credit rating from BBB ﹢ reduction to BB ﹢. Ratings agencies have also downgraded other countries' credit ratings as the debt problems of other dumb pigs have been exposed. In April 2009, standard &poor's and fitch to Ireland's sovereign credit rating from AAA down to AA ﹢, at the end of the standard & poor's put Portugal's sovereign credit rating outlook to negative from stable and then Spain's sovereign credit rating to AA ﹢, Italy's situation is not optimistic, moody's cut Italy's long-term sovereign debt rating level 3, cut its short-term sovereign debt rating at the same time. France, Germany and Britain's credit rating alarm is sounded, the rating agencies will focus on the core countries in economic and fiscal reform progress, at the same time considering the European economic fundamentals and financial market possible negative factors.

At present, China's trade relations with the eu are increasingly close, and the scale of trade is expanding rapidly. The European sovereign debt crisis continued to spread the core countries such as France and Germany, even may cause the debt crisis in the United States, Japan and other developed countries, this will bring China's import and export trade more adverse effect, thus affecting the development of economy and trade in China.

(1) impact on the main entrance and export markets

Since the European sovereign debt crisis in 2009, China's export trade has been negative. Exports to the European Union fell at the fastest rate in 2009, to 193%, followed by Japan at -1569%. China's exports to the eu in 2011 were $356.2bn, up 1438% from $31123.5 billion in 2010, and growth is well below the pre-2008 growth rate. At the same time, China's export growth rate has fallen sharply, from 2830% in 2010 to 1454% in 2011. China's exports to Japan in 2010 and 2011 have not changed much.

The impact of the European sovereign debt crisis on China's import trade is less than that of export trade. The import volume only fell in 2009, and the import speed has been restored in the future. China's total imports from the world fell by 1118% in 2009, and its previous imports in 2010 and 2011. The same is true of imports from the European Union, the United States and Japan, and the same pace of growth that China imports from the world.

(2) impact on the main import and export commodities

In recent years, China's exports to the eu, us and Japan have focused on mechanical and electrical products, textiles, metal products and chemical products. In 2009 China's exports to the eu, us, Japan market several kind of main items are negative state, the biggest drop in exports to the eu's metal products, at 483%, the biggest drop in America's export goods is metal products is 362%; The biggest drop in exports to Japan was chemical products (344%). It can be seen that China's exports to these three markets are the most significant decline in the metal products and chemical products. Export figures from January to June in 2012 showed that China's exports to the European Union showed a decline in major commodities, with the largest decline in textiles and materials and metal products. Exports to the us rose by up to 129%, but not as fast as 2011. Exports of Japanese furniture toys grew by 182%, while chemical products fell by 186%.

In recent years, China's imports from the European Union, the United States and Japan have mainly focused on mechanical and electrical products, transportation equipment, chemical products and optical, clocks and medical devices. In 2009 only the import of mechanical and electrical products and base metals and products fell; The fastest growth in imports in 2010 was the import of transport equipment, with imports from the eu up by 729%, Japan's 512% and the us 41%. In 2011, the import of mechanical and electrical products from the United States decreased, while imports of other goods increased. In the first half of 2012, there was a negative growth in the import of mechanical and electrical products, and the transportation equipment imported from these three markets increased significantly. In general, the import of mechanical and electrical products has been decreasing in recent years, while the import of transportation equipment and optics, clocks and medical devices has been rising.

The European sovereign debt crisis has had a huge negative impact on China's export trade, and China's export trade growth will be slowed considerably. The impact on China's import trade is small. It should be taken for China to stimulate domestic demand, reduce dependence on exports, and appropriately increase imports, especially the shortage of the import of Chinese key technologies, such as new energy technology strategy has a positive role in promoting.
