Verizon company is formed by the merger of Atlantic bell and Nynex, two original bell operating companies in the United States, and the merger of GTE, an independent telephone company. After the formal merger, Verizon became the largest local telephone company, the largest wireless communication company in the United States, and the world's largest provider of yellow page printing and online yellow page information. Verizon operates telecommunications and wireless services in 45 countries around the world, including the United States, Europe, Asia and the Pacific. The company is listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
On July 19, 2018, Verizon Telecom ranked 37 on the Fortune 500 list. In October, Verizon announced 44000 job cuts. The reduction affects more than 30% of the total employees, mainly for "long-term employees".
